Alpenföhn / Work on Paper

This series started with a bunch of warm-up drawings. Since I always want to use colors in my paintings, I wanted to experiment with no colors. The point was to only use black, grey or white tones. Soon I discovered an old “Bruuchtums Kalender” (calendar of customs/traditions) from Appenzell (a region in the northeast of Switzerland), which I started using as a background to draw on. Although I have lived in California for a long time, I still yearn for places in Europe where I grew up in. Homesickness is a reoccurring theme in my work.
