Banal Everyday Objects Become Sculptures - or- Sculptures-The World of Consumption
In California Sofie Siegmann created, in addition to her paintings, diverse public art projects: giant (ceramic-) murals, sculptures, sidewalk inserts and installations. The theme of her installations are objects from our throwaway society: Discarded cheap goods of mass production like plastic toys, buttons, computer parts and more. They are newly recombined in different ways and "alienated". Special attention in this area should be accorded to a project realized with grants: The bizarre sofa, made from ceramics and discarded materials, can be seen today in the glaring sun of the Nevada desert. Therefore, Sofie started to gather plastic junk: Toys, children's boots, diving masks, Barbie dolls etc. Casted in transparent plastic those articles of mass production change our perception: A banal object becomes an unique object d'art.

Banale Alltagsgegenstände werden zu Skulpturen - oder- Skulpturen-die Welt des Konsums
In Kalifornien verwirklichte Sofie Siegmann neben ihrer Malerei diverse Kunst-am-Bau-Projekte: riesige (Keramik-) Wandbilder, Skulpturen, Trottoire-einlagen und Installationen. Im Fokus ihrer Installationen stehen Objekte unserer Wegwerfgesellschaft: Entsorgte Billigwaren der Massenindustrie wie Kinderspielzeug aus Plastik, Knöpfe, Computerteile und mehr werden in unterschiedlichen Kombinationen immer wieder neu zusammengesetzt und "entfremdet". Besondere Aufmerksamkeit verdient in diesem Zusammenhang ein mittels Stipendien realisiertes Projekt: das aus Keramik und ausrangierten Materialien gefertigte bizarre Sofa, welches heute unter der strahlenden Sonne der Nevada-Wüste zu sehen ist. Also sammelte Sofie wieder Plastikramsch: Spielzeug, Kinderstiefelchen, Taucherbrillen, Barbiepuppen usw. In durchsichtiges Kunstharz gegossen verändern diese Massenartikel unsere Wahrnehmung: ein banaler Gegenstand wird zu einem einzigartigen, unverwechselbaren Kunst-Genuss.
