As soon as I landed in Japan, I started collecting printed materials. Chop-stick wrappers, maps of Cities, lunch-tray adornments, hotel brochures, train schedules, invitations to art shows. Japanese esthetics: attention to detail, a sense for bright, often neon colors, portraiture of 'cute', 'kitsch' and 'beauty'. My paintings are a compilation of maps and imagery I found in those brochures and hand-me outs in Japan. I work with children, creating public art sculptures out of plastic toys they collect from home. The children's esthetics includes using glitter, googely eyes, pom-poms, glue. I paint with rollers, brushes, make prints with balls, cups and containers, let the paint drip and spill. It is an obsession about the process of painting.
